Toronto FC revealed today that they have signed Julian Altobelli, a forward from Toronto FC II, to a short-term MLS agreement for Thursday’s Leagues Cup game against Inter Miami CF. According to MLS regulations, this short-term agreement permits clubs to loan players from their MLS NEXT Pro affiliates for various competitions, including MLS, U.S. Open Cup, Concacaf Champions League, Canadian Championship, Leagues Cup, and exhibition matches.
Altobelli, 21, first joined Toronto FC II on December 16, 2020, and made his debut for the Young Reds against FC Tucson on May 26, 2021, in USL League One. Over four seasons (2021-2024), he has scored 13 goals and provided nine assists in 86 total appearances across MLS NEXT Pro and USL League One. Altobelli holds records for most appearances (86), third for goals (13), and shares first place for assists (9) in Toronto FC II’s history.
This season, he has played in 15 matches, scoring three goals and registering two assists. He began with the Toronto FC Academy in January 2014 and signed his first professional contract with York United (formerly York9 FC) of the Canadian Premier League in May 2020 before moving to TFC II in December 2020.
