The Cincinnati Bengals find themselves in a tough position and may consider trading wide receiver Tee Higgins if their struggles continue. Expected to be one of the league’s top teams this season, they enter Week 4 with a disappointing 0-3 record, having lost close games to the Patriots, Chiefs, and Commanders.
Despite a -12 point differential indicating they might be better than their record, another loss could jeopardize their season. They’re looking for their first win against Andy Dalton and the Panthers, who he impressed against last week. With Higgins unlikely to stay beyond 2025, trading him could be wise if 2024 turns into a lost season, especially with interest from teams like the Chargers and Saints.
In 2024, passing offenses are generally declining, which benefits the Los Angeles Chargers. Under Jim Harbaugh, their defense has become one of the league’s best, and J.K. Dobbins has revitalized his career in California. However, to win games, they’ll need to improve their passing game, which is currently challenged by Justin Herbert’s injuries and the inexperience of young receivers Quentin Johnston and Ladd McConkey. The Chargers could address this by trading for a proven veteran like Tee Higgins.
After releasing Mike Williams and Keenan Allen due to their high cap hits not matching their production, the Chargers’ young receivers have performed reasonably well. Still, their passing attack ranks below average across various metrics. Although Higgins also has health concerns, a trade could help Herbert regain his form. With the Kansas City Chiefs not being as dominant as usual, acquiring a receiver like Higgins could elevate the Chargers, assuming Herbert can stay healthy.
As for the New Orleans Saints, they started the season with two impressive wins but faced a setback against the Eagles. They clearly believe they can contend for a title, and adding Tee Higgins could help them take that next step. Derek Carr began the season strongly but relies heavily on his supporting cast. While Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed form a solid receiving duo, adding another top receiver could be crucial for maximizing their offense.
First-year offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak has done well with the current roster, but acquiring Higgins could enhance his impact. Olave is versatile, Shaheed is a solid deep threat, and bringing in Higgins as a jump ball specialist could alleviate Carr’s struggles in the red zone. Addressing this weakness could unlock New Orleans’s full potential.
