With goaltender Jeremy Swayman and his new contract seemingly at a standstill, the Boston Bruins have added a backup goalie just in case.
You now have proof, if proof were needed, that the Boston Bruins are unsure of when Jeremy Swayman will return to the team. Since Swayman is anticipated to remain sidelined come opening night of the 2024–25 regular season, the Bruins have acquired a backup goalie in case of need.
Jiri Patera, a 25-year-old goalie, was placed by the Vancouver Canucks on Monday. The Boston Bruins have since announced that they had acquired him to bolster their lineup.

In June of this year, Jiri Patera inked a new two-year, two-way contract with the Vancouver Canucks.
With the Vegas Golden Knights in 2023–24, Patera, 25, played in six games and finished with a record of 1-3-1, 3.98 goals against average, and a.893 save percentage. Patera finished 11-10-4 with a 2.99 goals against average and a.903 save percentage in 25 games with the Henderson Silver Knights (AHL) in the previous season.

With eight career NHL regular season games under his belt with Vegas, the 6’3″, 212-pound goalie has a 3-3-1 record, 3.57 goals against average, and a.902 save percentage. With Henderson, he has played in 85 AHL games overall, going 37-40-6 with a 2.92 goals against average and a.907 save percentage , and one shutout.
