Former Miami Dolphins center Connor Williams has announced his retirement from the NFL. Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald shared the news on Friday, citing “personal reasons” for Williams’ decision after starting nine games this season.
The 27-year-old played all 618 of Seattle’s offensive snaps through the first ten weeks, allowing two sacks—a remarkable comeback from the torn ACL he suffered last December while with the Dolphins. Macdonald clarified that the retirement was unrelated to any lingering effects from the knee injury.
Drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft, Williams initially started 51 games at left guard before transitioning to center with the Dolphins in 2022. During his first season in the new role, he excelled, allowing just three sacks across 1,056 snaps and using his speed to thrive as a run blocker, particularly at the second level.
Williams joined the Seahawks in August on a one-year, $6 million deal. Through nine games, he recorded 11 pressures and eight penalties, according to Pro Football Focus. With his departure, rookie Olu Oluwatimi is expected to take over as Seattle’s starting center against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.
