The No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs (6-1) are headed to Jacksonville this Saturday to face their rival, the Florida Gators (4-3), but they’ll be missing key players. Georgia’s defensive line has been dealing with injuries throughout the season, with experienced starters Mykel Williams and Warren Brinson previously sidelined by ankle issues, while sophomore Jordan Hall recently returned from a leg injury in time to play against No. 6 Texas.
During that game against Texas, Georgia was in its best shape defensively, as Williams, Brinson, and Hall all participated, holding Texas to just 29 rushing yards and recording seven sacks along with 10 tackles for loss.
However, the Bulldogs suffered another setback on Tuesday when head coach Kirby Smart announced that former five-star recruit Joseph Jonah-Ajonye will miss the rest of the season following surgery for a “lower-extremity injury.” The freshman, standing 6-foot-4 and weighing 275 pounds, appeared in four games and tallied one tackle before his season was cut short. He is eligible for a redshirt.
Other absences for Georgia include starting linebacker Smael Mondon Jr. (foot) and starting right guard Tate Ratledge (ankle/MCL), with no clear return dates as of Tuesday. The Georgia-Florida game is scheduled for Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET on ABC, with Georgia entering as 16.5-point favorites, according to ESPN Bet.
