This is a solid depth acquisition for the Bulls, especially given the affordable cost. With the possibility of playing small ball next season with Zion Williamson at center, Green could be a valuable asset. His athleticism, preference for a fast-paced game, and 37% shooting accuracy from three-point range last season make him a strong fit.
Javonte Green’s circuitous journey through the NBA is taking him to New Orleans.
The Pelicans have agreed to a fully guaranteed one-year minimum contract with Green.
Green is likely to find himself deep on the Pelicans’ bench, assuming the team remains healthy. With coach Willie Green potentially starting Daniel Theis (or another center they might acquire) at center, CJ McCollum and Brandon Ingram are expected to start on the wings. Behind them, Trey Murphy III and defensive specialist Herb Jones are deserving of significant playing time. Jordan Hawkins and Matt Ryan will also compete for wing minutes, and Dejounte Murray could start at point guard but also play as a shooting guard if necessary. If Ingram is traded, which the Pelicans attempted to do this offseason without success, the wing minutes could open up for Green, though there are other players the team prioritizes.
Nevertheless, this is a solid depth addition for New Orleans and brings their roster to 15 players under contract for the upcoming season, filling all their available spots.
