OFFICIAL: Former Leafs defenseman signs PTO with the St. Louis Blues

Former Maple Leaf Scott Harrington just received a PTO opportunity with the St. Louis Blues. To stay in the NHL, he will need to demonstrate his abilities.

Scott Harrington, Matthew Peca, Matthew Peca and Sam Bitten have all signed player tryout contracts with the St. Louis Blues, the team announced on Monday. These signings are for the 2024–25 training camp. With the hopes of joining the Blues roster, these PTOs provide everyone an opportunity to showcase their talents.

31-year-old veteran defenseman Scott Harrington has a ton of NHL experience. Harrington played for the ZSC Lions in the Swiss National League during the previous campaign. The most important thing is that the huge defender scored two points in six postseason games and four points in 14 regular-season games, all of which came at crucial times.

Harrington last participated in NHL action in the 2022–23 season, splitting time between the San Jose Sharks and the Anaheim Ducks, prior to spending the previous season in Europe. In the dramatic Timo Meier trade, he was sent to the New Jersey Devils; nevertheless, the Ducks claimed him off waivers just two days later.

Scott Harrington has 49 points in 255 games played between the Penguins, Toronto Maple Leafs, Columbus Blue Jackets, San Jose Sharks, and Anaheim Ducks. Harrington is a surefire pick because of his flexibility and plenty of experience.

That would in fact be the case, as the Columbus Blue Jackets, who he would subsequently find consistency with over several seasons, claimed him when the Leafs dismissed him. Even though Scott Harrington’s time with the Leafs was brief, it was a crucial turning point in his development into a dependable defenseman.

If he wants a shot at making the team, the St. Louis Blues are hoping he can be that dependable player at training camp.
