Michigan football loses five-star commit Penn State commit

On Friday, Michigan football lost a key commitment from four-star tight end Andrew Olesh. Olesh, who initially pledged to the Wolverines in July, was heavily pursued by Oregon and Penn State late in the recruiting process. While many expected him to choose the Ducks, Olesh ultimately decided to stay in his home state and play for James Franklin and the Nittany Lions.

“BREAKING: Elite 2025 TE Andrew Olesh has Flipped his Commitment from Michigan to Penn State, he tells me for @on3recruits,” Hayes Fawcett announced. “The 6’5, 215-pound TE had been committed to the Wolverines since July.”

Upon committing to Penn State, Olesh shared his excitement and goals for the program:
“Let’s bring home a National Championship to Penn State! The best in PA stay in PA,” he said.

Ranked as a four-star recruit by 247 Sports, Olesh is the #47 overall prospect in the 2025 class, the #3 tight end, and the top player in Pennsylvania. Despite the loss, Michigan’s 2025 recruiting class remains strong.

Olesh’s potential is highlighted by his unique skill set, as noted in a scouting report by 247 Sports’ Andrew Ivins:
“A three-level pass catcher with an ideal blend of size and traits, Olesh has the potential to become a game-changing combo tight end at the collegiate level. Ahead of his senior season, he tested in the upper percentile, running a 4.6 in the 40-yard dash and a 4.13 in the short shuttle at nearly 6-foot-5 and 215 pounds. While primarily used as a large outside receiver in high school, he has shown effectiveness as a move blocker on the perimeter and has proven capable in run-blocking assignments from a three-point stance.”
