JUST IN: Los Angeles Dodgers Sign An Outstanding Player on Minor League Contract

The Dodgers have signed left-handed pitcher Zach Logue to a minor league contract, and he has been assigned to Triple-A Oklahoma City, where he will make his debut for the organization tonight, according to OKC broadcaster Alex Freedman.

Logue became a free agent a week ago after being waived by the Braves. The 28-year-old spent most of the season with Atlanta’s Triple-A team. Although the Braves called him up in July, he did not appear in an MLB game before being designated for assignment on September 1 to make room for John Brebbia.

A Kentucky native, Logue was one of four players traded to the A’s for Matt Chapman shortly after the lockout. He pitched briefly in the majors with Oakland in 2022 and had a short stint with the Tigers last season. However, he struggled against MLB hitters, posting an ERA of nearly seven earned runs per nine innings over 68 innings, with a low strikeout rate of 17% and a high home run rate of 2.12 per nine innings.

Despite these challenges at the major league level, Logue has performed well in Triple-A this season. With Atlanta’s top affiliate, he made 12 starts out of 23 appearances, logging 90 2/3 innings with a 2.68 ERA, the best ERA among Triple-A pitchers with at least 75 innings. He struck out 23.5% of batters faced and kept his walks to 7.4%, also improving his home run rate to just 0.79 per nine innings.

Logue will now join the Pacific Coast League for the last two weeks of the minor league season. Although he is ineligible for the postseason, he could be considered for spot starts or long relief in the regular season, particularly if the Dodgers secure a first-round bye and wish to rest their main playoff pitchers. If the Dodgers do not call him up, Logue will be eligible for minor league free agency at the start of the offseason.
