The Boston Red Sox have continued their disappointing trend by missing the postseason for the third consecutive year. They have now failed to reach the playoffs in five of the last six seasons and need to break free from this cycle of mediocre performance. Although there has been significant youth development over the past two years, the team has yet to translate that progress into wins or playoff appearances.
“This year provided valuable lessons for both the players and the coaching staff,” Cora shared with NESN’s Tom Caron on Friday. “We had to be patient as the players grew into their roles, and they’re still learning. We’ve gained experience over the past few seasons, and we know some of these young players will make an impact on the field, while others will contribute in the offseason to improve our team. We’re in a good place.”
With a critical offseason ahead and important roster decisions to make, Cora expressed newfound confidence in the future of the Red Sox.
“I genuinely think this will be the last time we face difficulties,” Cora remarked. “I believe we’ll turn a corner during the offseason and be prepared for spring training. Next year, we’ll have a very talented team.”
The Red Sox are heading into their final series of the season against the Tampa Bay Rays. If they win the series, they will achieve a winning record for the first time since 2021.
