The New York Jets have officially marked linebacker C.J. Mosley as doubtful for Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos, indicating that Jamien Sherwood is likely to start in his place.
After Friday’s practice, the Jets (2-1) and Broncos released their final injury reports. As anticipated, right tackle Morgan Moses has been ruled out due to a knee injury sustained against the New England Patriots last Thursday, and the Jets have no plans to place him on injured reserve. Rookie Olu Fashanu will step in as the starter.
Mosley mentioned to ESPN and other media outlets on Thursday that he aims to avoid a setback with the toe injury he sustained two weeks ago. “Of course, I’d love to play, but I want to make sure I’m 100%,” he said. “It’s a long season, and the worst thing I could do is rush back and risk further injury,” recalling a previous incident in 2019 when he returned early from a groin injury and required season-ending surgery.
Coach Robert Saleh echoed Mosley’s sentiments earlier in the week, emphasizing the need to balance bringing him back while preventing any setbacks. Mosley has not practiced all week. Sherwood recorded five tackles in his start against the Patriots and tallied 11 tackles when he filled in for Mosley early in the Tennessee game.
Left tackle Tyron Smith participated fully in practice after taking veteran rest days earlier and has no injury designation. Three Jets who were on last week’s injury report—cornerbacks Michael Carter II (ankle) and D.J. Reed (knee), and running back Breece Hall (quadriceps)—have not appeared on this week’s report.
For the Broncos, JL Skinner has been ruled out due to an ankle injury and has not practiced all week. Tight end Nate Atkins (shoulder) and wide receiver Josh Reynolds (Achilles) participated fully on Friday and have no injury designations, with Reynolds also being a full participant on Thursday.
The Broncos (1-2) have been practicing in White Sulphur Springs, W.V., this week after their game against Tampa Bay last weekend, choosing to remain on the East Coast rather than flying back to Denver before heading to New York.
