“Fabio Carvalho takes a subtle jab at Arne Slot following his departure from Liverpool.”

Fabio Carvalho has wrapped up his Liverpool stint after finalizing a summer move to Premier League side Brentford, where he has signed a five-year contract.

In his first interview with Brentford, Carvalho expressed his desire to play “somewhere where you’re wanted,” hinting at his dissatisfaction with his time at Liverpool. The 21-year-old has joined Brentford for a transfer fee of £27.5 million ($35.1 million), with Liverpool receiving £22.5 million ($28.7 million) up front and the remainder potentially coming from add-ons. The deal also includes a 17.5 percent sell-on clause.

Carvalho’s tenure at Liverpool was challenging. He arrived at Anfield after a standout season with Fulham, where he helped secure the Championship title. However, he struggled to replicate his form at Liverpool, managing only two Premier League goals during his debut season under Jurgen Klopp. A loan spell at RB Leipzig during the 2023/24 season ended without a Bundesliga goal, leading to his return to Liverpool in January. He regained some form with Hull, scoring nine goals in the Championship.

Brentford’s interest in Carvalho likely stemmed from his improved performances at Hull. In his initial Brentford interview, Carvalho remarked on wanting to play “somewhere where you’re loved,” implying he felt undervalued at Liverpool. Despite performing well in preseason games, including goals against Arsenal and Manchester United, he did not secure a spot in new Liverpool coach Arne Slot’s preferred lineup.

Brentford head coach Thomas Frank is excited about Carvalho’s potential impact, noting his skills and work ethic. Frank believes Carvalho will bring a unique quality to the squad and is pleased to welcome him as he looks to contribute significantly to the team’s success.
