DONE DEAL JUST NOW: Blackhawks Assign MVP Forward to Rival Team

The Chicago Blackhawks have assigned forward Andreas Athanasiou to their AHL affiliate, the Rockford IceHogs. Athanasiou, who appeared in five games for the Blackhawks this season, has a 492-game NHL career with teams including Detroit, Edmonton, Los Angeles, and Chicago. Drafted by the Red Wings in 2012, he previously played for their AHL affiliate in Grand Rapids from 2014 to 2016.

Additionally, the IceHogs have sent forward Jalen Luypen to the Indy Fuel in the ECHL. Luypen, 22, played three games for Rockford this season and registered 20 points (4 goals, 16 assists) over 64 games last season. The Blackhawks picked Luypen in the 7th round (216th overall) of the 2021 NHL Draft.

The IceHogs will face the Grand Rapids Griffins on the road on Wednesday, Nov. 13, at 10:00 a.m. CT. They return home to play the Manitoba Moose on Friday, Nov. 15, at 7 p.m. for “Hockey Fights Cancer Night,” supporting Mercyhealth’s cancer care services through the Mercyhealth Development Foundation.
