Breaking: why Jaff Bezos not interested in buying Boston Celtics, allegedly targeting NBA team in a different city

A recent report suggests that Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos is not looking to purchase the Boston Celtics. However, this does not imply he isn’t considering acquiring a team in a particular city.

The Boston Celtics have long been a highly valued franchise, a reputation earned through their storied success in NBA history. Their value saw a significant increase this spring when the team won its 18th championship.

This is why it made financial sense for Wyc Grousbeck and the Celtics ownership group to consider selling the team. Although the news took some by surprise, it’s a smart move to sell while the team’s value is at its peak.

There has been considerable speculation about potential buyers for the franchise. Recently, a rumor surfaced suggesting that Jeff Bezos, the billionaire and one of the richest people in the world, might be interested in purchasing the team. With his substantial wealth, he could afford to buy the franchise outright. Last year, he was also rumored to be interested in acquiring the Washington Commanders when they were on the market.

However, a source close to Jeff Bezos informed The Information on Tuesday that the rumors about him wanting to buy the Celtics are completely unfounded and that he has no plans to pursue the acquisition of the team. Nonetheless, he might still be interested in owning an NBA franchise.

While Bezos will not be pursuing the Celtics, NBC Sports NBA insider Kurt Helin reported on Wednesday that there is speculation he might be interested in a Seattle expansion team if the league approves such a move in the near future. Amazon is headquartered in Seattle.

The Seattle Supersonics, who became the Oklahoma City Thunder after relocating in 2008, have seen renewed efforts in recent years to return a team to Seattle.
