Georgia Tech baseball alum Kristian Campbell concluded an impressive first full professional season by being named Baseball America’s Minor League Player of the Year, as announced earlier this week. Drafted in the 4th round of the 2023 MLB Draft by the Boston Red Sox, Campbell had a standout 2024 season, posting a .330/.439/.538 batting line with 20 home runs and 24 stolen bases across three levels.
High-A Greenville, Double-A Portland, and Triple-A Worcester. After playing 40 games in High-A, he was promoted to Double-A Portland, where he excelled. In 56 games with the Sea Dogs, he hit .362, recorded eight home runs, tallied 28 extra-base hits, and drove in 35 runs, earning him the Eastern League MVP award making him only the second player in the team’s history to achieve this honor.
Campbell finished the season with a call-up to the Red Sox’s Triple-A affiliate, Worcester, where he played 19 games, achieved an .898 OPS, and registered 17 RBIs and runs scored. Recognized for his versatility, he started at five different positions during the season, primarily at shortstop, while also playing second base, third base, and center field.
“We call him Barry Bonds because of how incredible a hitter he is,” said Roman Anthony, the Red Sox’s top prospect and Campbell’s teammate. “He’s an outstanding player and a phenomenal athlete. He plays the game the right way and is a great person both on and off the field.
It’s rare to find someone who can excel in multiple key positions while also putting up impressive numbers.” Previously ranked as the No. 99 prospect in baseball by Baseball America this summer, Campbell concludes his first full professional season with a ranking of No. 24.
