Breaking: Retired QB Joins NFC North Rival, Per Report

After leading his high school alma mater, Miami Northwestern Senior High School, to a state championship, Teddy Bridgewater announced on Thursday that he is coming out of retirement.

Lions head coach Dan Campbell clarified that Bridgewater’s return does not reflect dissatisfaction with current backup quarterback Hendon Hooker.

Last week, Bridgewater expressed his intention to return to the NFL after securing the Florida High School Athletic Association Class 3A state title.

“My team knows the plan. We wanted to win a state championship, then Coach goes back to the league, see what happens, and return in February to continue coaching high school football. We’ll see how it unfolds,” Bridgewater shared on NFL Network’s The Insiders.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Bridgewater has received coaching inquiries from NFL teams in recent weeks but remains focused on pursuing a championship as a player before considering those opportunities.

The 32-year-old Bridgewater served as the Lions’ backup quarterback behind Jared Goff last season.
