BREAKING NEWS: Reasons the Cowboys were unable to sign Derrick Henry throughout the offseason

Jerry Jones’ offseason decisions are starting to look questionable this season. After a strong opening win in Week 1, the Dallas Cowboys seemed poised to be a contender in the NFC. However, following a crushing 44-19 loss to the New Orleans Saints in Week 2 and another defeat against the Baltimore Ravens today, fans have every reason to be frustrated with the owner.

One puzzling move was failing to acquire a top-tier running back to support quarterback Dak Prescott. The Cowboys could have pursued standout options like Josh Jacobs, Aaron Jones, Saquon Barkley, or the biggest name available, Derrick Henry.

Instead, Jones opted to re-sign former Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott, bring back Rico Dowdle, and sign veteran RB Dalvin Cook, both of whom are past their prime.

Cowboys supporters must have been devastated by Henry’s performance when he eventually joined the Ravens as a singer. Henry torched the Cowboys’ defense in their 28-25 victory, rushing for 151 yards, accumulating 23 receiving yards, and scoring two scores.

Together, Elliott, Dowdle, and Deuce Vaughn gained 43 yards through running. Of those yards, Dowdle accounted for 32.

Reporters were able to speak with Jones after the game and inquired about his disappointment at not seeing Henry.

Jones remarked, “We couldn’t afford him.”

While Jones didn’t directly address why they didn’t sign Henry, he was quite straightforward about his disappointment in today’s loss, which marks the Cowboys’ second consecutive defeat.

“No, I’m very disappointed that we got beat today,” Jones told Cowboys staff writer Patrik Walker. “Very disappointed. You can’t sugarcoat the fact that we lost, and there were aspects of the game where we really need to improve… We have a lot of work ahead of us, but there’s still time to make those improvements, especially with a short week coming up.”

The Cowboys did show some resilience in the fourth quarter, as Prescott and the offense managed to score touchdowns and the defense made a few crucial stops, but they ultimately fell short. The Cowboys’ defense has allowed a total of 464 rushing yards over the last two games.

Next, they’ll kick off Week 4 on Thursday night against their division rivals, the New York Giants.
