Kansas City Royals manager Matt Quatraro will miss Monday’s home game against the Cleveland Guardians due to a “personal matter.”
Bench coach Paul Hoover will step in as the acting manager in Quatraro’s absence.
It is unclear how long Quatraro, 50, will be away.
The Royals (75-63) were in third place in the American League Central and holding the third and final AL wild-card spot, 4.5 games ahead of the Boston Red Sox, heading into Monday’s game.
In his two seasons as Royals manager, Quatraro has led the team to a 131-169 record and has them in playoff contention following a 106-loss season in 2023. He also has coaching experience with Cleveland (2014-17) and the Tampa Bay Rays (2018-22).
