The Edmonton Oilers will not hire assistant general manager Brad Holland for the 2024-25 season, as the two sides have mutually split ways. Holland was elevated to assistant general manager in 2022, joining Keith Gretzky and Bill Scott in helping Brad’s father, Oilers GM Ken Holland. Ken’s five-year reign as Edmonton’s GM and President of Hockey Operations came to an end when the team elected not to extend his contract at the end of the season. They have subsequently replaced him with Stan Bowman, the long-time general manager of the Chicago Blackhawks, who is making his NHL return.
Brad began his hockey career in 2006 at NHL.com as a writer and video editor while studying at Fordham University School of Law. He left that position in 2013 to briefly practice law before being recruited by Toronto Maple Leafs President Brendan Shanahan to join the Leafs as a team manager in 2015.
Brad signed a two-year contract, during which he developed a strong expertise in hockey analytics and scouting. He later worked with the NHL Central Scouting registry before reuniting with his father in 2019 when he joined Edmonton as a pro scout. Throughout the season, he contributed to both pro and amateur scouting for Edmonton, gaining recognition for his analytical scouting approach and playing a role in strengthening the team’s forward depth and prospect pool through trades.
Brad is now seeking a new opportunity and brings eight years of front-office experience, with a distinctive approach to scouting and team-building that has made an impact. He is expected to find a new role soon and might even be attracted to join the Dallas Stars, where his uncle Dennis works as an amateur scout.
