BREAKING NEWS: Injured Dodgers Ace Experiences Setback During Throwing Session.

While warming up for a simulated game on Friday, Tyler Glasnow experienced “discomfort” in his right arm, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts informed Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register and other reporters. Glasnow will undergo tests this weekend to check for any structural issues. Roberts mentioned, “We’ll reassess and see how he feels over the next few days and determine when we can resume throwing.

Even if the MRI results are clear, there remains significant uncertainty about what this setback means for Tyler return. With the regular season ending in just over two weeks, and although the Dodgers are nearly certain to reach the playoffs, it’s unclear if Glasnow will be fully healthy and prepared in time for the postseason. Since the minor league season concludes next weekend, it’s unlikely he’ll be ready for a rehab assignment, meaning he would need to rely on simulated games or other preparatory work rather than actual game experience.

Elbow tendinitis has prevented Tyler from pitching since August 11, interrupting a strong season where he had a 3.49 ERA and an impressive 32.2% strikeout rate across 134 innings.

Specifically regarding his elbow, he underwent Tommy John surgery in 2021, which kept him out for most of the 2022 season with the Rays, except for two regular-season games and a playoff appearance. An oblique strain then delayed the start of his 2023 season by two months. This performance led the Dodgers to acquire Glasnow in a significant offseason trade and sign him to a $136.5M extension through the 2028 season.
