BREAKING NEWS: Former Standout High School Player Returns To The Chicago Bears

Khari Blasingame, a former standout at Buckhorn High School, is returning for his third season with the Chicago Bears.

The Bears had released Blasingame on Tuesday to trim their preseason roster to the regular-season limit of 53 players. However, following the decision to place long snapper Patrick Scales on injured reserve on Wednesday, the team re-signed Blasingame to the active roster.

In the previous season, Blasingame participated in 16 games with two starts, logging 186 offensive snaps and 210 special-teams plays. He recorded 26 rushing yards on eight carries and caught three passes for 2 yards.

Blasingame began his football career at New Market High School, then went on to Vanderbilt where he started as a safety before transitioning to linebacker and eventually running back during his final three seasons.

He entered the NFL by signing with the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted rookie in 2019. After spending his rookie season on the Vikings’ practice squad, he was signed to the Tennessee Titans’ active roster with six games remaining in the 2019 season. Blasingame played two seasons with the Titans, where he was part of the team as Derrick Henry achieved 2,000 rushing yards in the 2020 season.

Blasingame joined the Chicago Bears as a free agent in 2022. Over his NFL career, he has appeared in 64 regular-season games and five playoff games, accumulating 13 receptions for 99 yards and 11 rushing attempts for 32 yards.

Scales has been with the Bears since the 2015 season. According to the Chicago Tribune, he is dealing with a disc injury that will necessitate back surgery. As a result, Scales will be sidelined for at least the first four games of the season.

The Bears’ regular season kicks off against the Titans at noon CDT on September 8 at Soldier Field in Chicago.
