BREAKING NEWS: Former Lakers Wing Departs NBA for NBL.

Dylan Windler, who briefly played as a small forward for the Los Angeles Lakers during the 2023-24 season, has found his next professional basketball opportunity outside of the NBA.

Michael Scotto of Hoops Hype reports that the 6-foot-6 Windler has signed a one-year contract with the Perth Wildcats in Australia’s National Basketball League (NBL).

Windler was drafted 26th overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2019 from Belmont, but his rookie season was delayed due to a leg injury. As a free agent in 2023, Windler struggled to secure a spot on an NBA roster. He eventually signed a two-way contract with the New York Knicks, who converted it to a standard deal for the 2023-24 season. However, he was waived in December and subsequently joined the Westchester Knicks in the G League.

Windler signed a two-way deal with the Lakers in January 2024 but was waived in March. He then joined the Atlanta Hawks as part of a two-way contract, making them his third NBA team of the season.

Over his 101 NBA regular season games, Windler averaged 3.2 points per game with shooting stats of .425 from the field, .347 from three-point range, and .800 from the free-throw line, along with 2.1 rebounds, 0.8 assists, and 0.4 steals per game.

In the past season with the Lakers, Windler played in only eight games, averaging 1.5 points on 44.4 percent shooting, including 50 percent from three point range, in just 3.5 minutes per game. During his stint with the South Bay Lakers in the G League, he averaged 11.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.3 steals, and 0.7 blocks per game.

The Perth Wildcats, established in 1982, are the most successful team in the NBL, having won ten championships, with their latest title in 2020. They most recently reached the NBL Finals in the 2022-23 season.
