BREAKING NEWS: Dallas $240 Million Contract Discussions With Super Star went Right Down To The Last Minute.

Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys finalized a contract just an hour before their game against the Cleveland Browns. There had been doubts about whether a deal would be reached at all, with many believing it might be postponed until after the season. However, Jerry Jones ensured that his quarterback was taken care of. Prescott secured a four-year, $240 million deal, making him the highest-paid player in NFL history. The crucial aspect of the contract lies in the distribution of funds and the amount guaranteed, which was the final hurdle, as noted by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

“Prescott received an $80 million signing bonus and $129 million fully guaranteed at signing, which includes this year’s $1.25 million salary and $47.75 million for next year. His $40 million salary for 2026 is injury-guaranteed and becomes fully guaranteed in March 2025, while his $45 million salary for 2027 is injury-guaranteed and fully guaranteed in March 2026. For 2028, $17 million of his $55 million salary is guaranteed for injury and becomes fully guaranteed in March 2027. In total, there are $231 million in guarantees, which represents 96% of the contract’s $240 million value,” Fowler explained. “The deal also includes a no-trade clause and prevents the use of franchise or transition tags, making Prescott the first player in NFL history to earn at least $60 million annually.

The Cowboys have the option to restructure the contract and add additional void years (currently four, spanning from 2029 to 2032) to manage salary cap space as needed.

It’s clear that Prescott has made history in several ways, and there was always a possibility of such a milestone when he signed his extension.

The Cowboys have secured Dak Prescott for the long term.

Dallas Cowboys CEO Jerry Jones was never certain about when a contract extension would be completed, but it appears he aimed to finalize it before the season began, as reported by Calvin Watkins.
