The Chicago Bears have parted ways with Canadian-American quarterback Brett Rypien, as reported by Tom Pelissero.
Standing 6-foot-2 and weighing 202 pounds, Rypien completed 70.6 percent of his passes for 335 yards and three touchdowns during the preseason.
The nephew of Super Bowl XXVI MVP Mark Rypien, a Calgary native, Brett Rypien joined the Bears in March after spending the 2023 season with the Los Angeles Rams, Seattle Seahawks, and New York Jets. In his brief stint as a starter, he threw for 172 yards and one interception, with a 0-1 record.
The 28-year-old first signed with the Denver Broncos after going undrafted in the 2019 NFL Draft and played four seasons with them. In three regular season starts, he posted a 2-1 record, amassing 778 yards, four touchdowns, and eight interceptions.
Born in Spokane, Washington, Rypien holds dual citizenship and was a standout quarterback at Boise State. Over his four years there, he accumulated 13,578 passing yards, 90 touchdowns, and 29 interceptions, earning three first-team All-Mountain West Conference selections and the Mountain West Conference Offensive Player of the Year award.
In the 2024 NFL Draft, the Bears, who finished last in the NFC North with a 7-10 record in 2023, used their first overall pick to select quarterback Caleb Williams from USC.
