BREAKING: Detroit Tigers Pitcher Has Been Named The Player Of The Week

The Detroit Tigers staged a dramatic comeback last night to defeat the Kansas City Royals, inching closer to a potential playoff berth and now trailing the Minnesota Twins by just 1.5 games for the final playoff spot. Early in the game, the Tigers fell behind as the Royals scored four runs in the bottom of the third.

However, in the top of the fourth, Trey Sweeney brought in Zach McKinstry with a sacrifice fly. Despite the Royals extending their lead back to four runs in the bottom of the inning, the Tigers began to close the gap in the fifth. Matt Vierling’s single scored Parker Meadows, and Colt Keith followed with a two-run homer, making it 5-4 Royals.

Kansas City added another run in the bottom of the fifth. In the top of the sixth, Wenceel Perez hit a two-run double to score Andy Ibanez and Jake Rogers, tying the game at 6-6, and Vierling’s subsequent RBI gave the Tigers the lead. The Royals threatened in the seventh and eighth innings, but Will Vest and Beau Brieske successfully escaped the trouble, securing the victory for Detroit.

In addition to Tarik Skubal, another key contributor to the Tigers’ success has been right-handed pitcher Keider Montero. Montero was named the American League Player of the Week for his standout performance over the past week.

He made two starts, earning a 2-0 record with a 0.00 ERA, a 0.64 WHIP, and six strikeouts in 14 innings. Montero’s impressive week included a complete game shutout against the Colorado Rockies and a five-inning shutout against the Baltimore Orioles.
