Kwon Alexander, a former player for the New Orleans Saints, is the newest addition to the Denver Broncos. The 30-year-old linebacker, who has a decade of experience, played two seasons with the Saints during Sean Payton’s final years as head coach. He will join the Broncos’ practice squad, as first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Standing at 6 feet 1 inch and weighing 227 pounds, Alexander was most recently with the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he played nine games last season, including two starts, before suffering an Achilles tendon injury. In his second-to-last game with the Steelers, he made a pivotal play by intercepting Tennessee quarterback Will Levis, securing a vital victory.
Alexander began his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, earning a Pro Bowl selection in 2017. After the Buccaneers released him in free agency in 2019, he signed a three-year deal with the San Francisco 49ers but tore his pectoral muscle midway through that season. He was traded to the Saints the following year.
He completed his contract with New Orleans before moving to the New York Jets in 2022, a season in which he played all regular-season games, marking only the second time in his career he achieved that feat.
Throughout his career, Kwon Alexander has accumulated 631 tackles, including 54 for loss, along with 13.5 sacks, 12 forced fumbles, and 9 interceptions. He has mostly been a starter, although he played as a reserve in 7 of his 9 games with Pittsburgh last year.
He is set to practice with the Broncos on Wednesday as they begin a three-day training session at the Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, W. Va.
