Due to a persistent right shoulder injury, Jansen will not be throwing this season, as Cora intimated at following Sunday’s doubleheader at Fenway Park. On Monday, the large righty was formally added to the injured list, and Shugart was called up from Worcester to take his place.
In Game 1 of the DH, Jansen delivered a shutout ninth inning and ended the contest with a 96 mph cutter strikeout. This offseason, Jansen, who turns 37 in a week, will be available as a free agent. Jansen made 54 appearances for Boston this season, recording 27 saves and a 3.29 ERA. For the last six games, Cora stated he will primarily switch between veteran Chris Martin and rookie Justin Slaten in save situations.
