The Denver Broncos secured their first win of the season with an unexpected 26-7 triumph over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week Three. First-year quarterback Bo Nix delivered a solid, if not remarkable, performance, gaining the full confidence of head coach Sean Payton despite a challenging start to his NFL journey.
While the offense has struggled—ranking 23rd in both total yards and points per game—Denver’s defense has shone, placing third in total yards allowed and second in passing yards allowed per game. On Saturday, the team announced that two members from the practice squad would be promoted to contribute to the defense: inside linebacker Levelle Bailey and defensive back Tanner McCalister, as reported by Broncos insider Zac Stevens on X.
Bailey, an undrafted free agent from Fresno State, will make his NFL debut in Week Four against the New York Jets. McCalister, who was signed by the Cleveland Browns last year as an undrafted free agent from Ohio State, joined the Broncos after his contract with Cleveland expired and found himself on Denver’s practice squad.
McCalister made his regular season debut with the Broncos during their Week Three matchup against the Buccaneers, where he played primarily on special teams.
Denver faced a major setback on defense last week when veteran linebacker Alex Singleton, in his sixth year, was ruled out for the season due to a torn ACL. Singleton sustained the injury in the first quarter of the Broncos’ Week Three victory but continued playing without indicating any problems. It was only after the game that the injury was diagnosed, leading to Singleton being placed on injured reserve.
