OFFICIAL: Cowboys Could Lose Bill Belichick to Another Team Wooing Him

Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy is in the final year of his contract, and although the team recently secured a win against the New York Giants, speculation continues about potential replacements, including former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick. An NFL analyst suggests that another team could be a strong contender for Belichick’s services.

The Jacksonville Jaguars faced a humiliating defeat on September 23, losing 47-10 to the Buffalo Bills, which leaves them at 0-3 heading into Week 4. This situation has sparked discussions about head coach Doug Pederson’s future. According to Mike Luciano of The Laundry Hat, Pederson was expected to help quarterback Trevor Lawrence develop, but his performance has declined since signing a $55 million-per-year contract amid offensive struggles.

Cowboys hand Bill Belichick his worst loss, and other final thoughts

Luciano points out that both the Jaguars and Cowboys have caught Belichick’s attention during his 2024 sabbatical as an analyst. If both teams decide to part ways with their coaches, Jacksonville might have an advantage in attracting him.

He notes that Belichick would likely have more control in Jacksonville than with the Cowboys, where owner Jerry Jones plays a significant role in team decisions. Luciano suggests that the Jaguars’ poor performance could lead owner Shad Khan to make significant changes, possibly including firing the criticized GM Trent Baalke.

Why Mike McCarthy is on the hot seat during Cowboys 2024 season

This scenario would allow Belichick more authority over coaching and personnel decisions—something that wouldn’t happen with Jones in Dallas.

Luciano emphasizes that Belichick’s full control over the Jaguars could give them an advantage over the Cowboys. He argues that Belichick isn’t interested in a diminished role after his success, unlike potential Cowboys hires who must answer to Jerry Jones, which has led to issues. Will Brinson also commented on X during the Bills vs.

Jaguars game, jokingly suggesting Belichick could be the Jaguars’ coach in 2025. Meanwhile, Jerry Jones openly admires Belichick, calling him a friend and one of the best coaches of all time during a press conference.
