BREAKING: Another Disappointing Cowboy Now Out for 4 Games After Surprise Injury

The Dallas Cowboys are trying to get back on track after a demoralizing loss to the New Orleans Saints last Sunday. Mike Zimmer’s defense is firmly in the spotlight following its pathetic effort against the Saints, who racked up 44 points and 432 total yards in that Week 2 thrashing.

There were several players during that contest who were in a position to help out but didn’t, and now one of them will be sidelined for at least four games.

Jordan Phillips, a defensive tackle for Dallas, was placed on the injured reserve list on Wednesday because of a wrist injury. The veteran defensive tackle underwent wrist surgery just a year ago, as ESPN’s Todd Archer notes. If it’s the same hand, this might be a harbinger of impending trouble.

Regretfully, it’s hard to predict how much the Cowboys will miss Phillips in his absence. Dallas was counting on the 6-foot-6, 330-pound veteran to have a significant influence in the trenches. Rather, since entering via trade before Week 1, the former 2015 draft pick has not had much of an impact, recording just one aided tackle and one quarterback hit in the first two weeks.

The Cowboys’ inability to stop the run to start the season—allowing an alarming 141.5 yards per game on the ground—demonstrates the obvious need that the D-line still has. In the upcoming weeks, one or two roster additions are required to solve that deficiency.
