At last, the Cowboys and quarterback Dak Prescott have advanced their discussions beyond the point of no return. Dallas and Prescott have reached an astounding four-year, $240 million contract, which would become Prescott the highest-paid player in NFL history, as ESPN’s Adam Schefter was the first to report.
According to Schefter, Prescott’s contract is guaranteed for all but $9MM, indicating the enormous power the three-time Pro Bowler possessed during this negotiation. His guaranteed salary of $231 million is $1 million higher than what Deshaun Watson received in his highly contentious contract with the Browns a few years prior.
Additionally, Prescott’s guarantees, which include a record-breaking $80 million signing bonus, are $60 million more than the next-highest amount of guaranteed money ever awarded on a four-year contract, notes Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.
