On Tuesday afternoon, the Cincinnati Bengals made several roster changes, including officially adding defensive tackle Lawrence Guy to the 53-man active roster.
To make room for Guy, the Bengals waived defensive end KJ Henry, a second-year player who was acquired off waivers on August 28. Henry had contributed on both defense and special teams in the team’s first two games.
Additionally, the Bengals released practice squad wide receiver Shedrick Jackson, who is the great-nephew of Bo Jackson. They have not yet filled his spot, leaving them one player short of the 16-player practice squad limit. It’s anticipated they might add another defensive tackle to the practice squad to bolster their depth while managing injuries.
Lawrence Guy, entering his 14th NFL season, is a former seventh-round pick of the Green Bay Packers in 2011 from Arizona State University. Throughout his career, Guy has played for the Colts, Chargers, Ravens, and Patriots, starting 122 games and recording 507 tackles, including 177 for loss, 17 sacks, 10 passes defensed, one interception, two forced fumbles, and six fumble recoveries.
Guy joins the Bengals at a critical time, as they are dealing with injuries on their defensive line. Rookies Kris Jenkin and McKinnley Jackson are both sidelined, and BJ Hill and Sheldon Rankins left the Week 2 game with hamstring issues.
The Bengals will face the Washington Commanders at home on Monday Night Football in Week 3, and Guy will likely be expected to contribute immediately.
