The Chicago Bears might need to acquire another wide receiver temporarily due to Rome Odunze’s MCL sprain, but they should also consider the long-term outlook of the position in relation to Keenan Allen’s future.
Allen is entering the last year of his contract and is seeking a new multi-year deal. However, his recent injury history, including a heel issue during the preseason and a similar injury that sidelined him for the final four games of 2023, raises concerns.
According to Bleacher Report’s NFL Scouting Department on September 10, if the Bears decide not to retain Allen for 2025, they should consider targeting Tyler Boyd, a former Cincinnati Bengals receiver currently with the Tennessee Titans, as a potential replacement.
Bleacher Report noted, The team might be wary of re-signing Keenan Allen this offseason. At 33 in April, he will likely be seeking a final significant contract. Additionally, the Bears invested a first-round pick in Rome Odunze, who is expected to be the team’s WR2 next year. Thus, adding a receiver like Boyd to serve as a slot receiver and the No. 3 WR could be an attractive option.
Boyd, who signed a one-year, $2.4 million deal with the Titans this offseason, previously played out a four-year, $43 million contract with Cincinnati. As of Tuesday, the Bears have about $52 million in projected salary cap space for 2025, while Boyd’s market value is under $8 million annually for a new two-year contract, according to Spotrac.
