JUST IN: Yankees Star Make His Comeback After The Yankees Promote Three Additional Players.

As the playoff race intensifies, a key player for the Yankees is set to make his much-anticipated return.

Anthony Rizzo, who has been out since June 18 due to a right forearm fracture, was activated from the 60-day injured list on Sunday as rosters expanded from 26 to 28 players. 2024, the 35-year-old had a .223 average, eight home runs, and 28 RBIs.

Manager Aaron Boone had said Saturday that Rizzo was  likely  to be activated when rosters expanded on Sunday, which was solidified by the Yankees’ decision to option rookie Bem Rice, who largely took over first base duties in July before hitting an offensive skid over the past few weeks.

There was some speculation about whether the Yankees might use an extra roster spot to give top prospect Jasson Domínguez another chance. Domínguez had hit four home runs in his first eight games last year before needing Tommy John surgery on his right UCL in late September. He returned to the Major Leagues on August 18, where he went 0-for-4 as the team’s 27th player at the Little League Classic. Following that game, he was sent back down to Triple-A.

Regarding Domínguez, it’s worth noting that if he finishes the season with fewer than 130 career at-bats (he has 35 as of September 1), he will keep his rookie status. This would make the Yankees eligible for a supplemental draft pick in 2026 if Domínguez were to win the 2025 AL Rookie of the Year Award under the Prospect Promotion Incentive (PPI).
