This summer, Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was featured in MLB trade rumors, as many in the baseball world speculated about a potential blockbuster trade involving him. Although no major deal materialized, reports suggest that the Blue Jays might pursue a significant move involving their All-Star slugger in 2025.
Guerrero Jr, age 25, earned his fourth consecutive All-Star selection this season. While the Blue Jays have fallen short of expectations, with several of their best players underperforming, Guerero Jr has been one of the lone bright spots on the Blue Jays roster.
This has significantly increased his trade value, especially as Bo Bichette, who was also mentioned in MLB trade rumors this summer, has seen his market value decline. Bichette is expected to be a trade candidate this season, but Toronto appears to have different plans for Guerrero Jr
According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, Toronto is considering moving Guerrero Jr. to third base in 2025. Although nothing has been confirmed yet, the team plans to give him more playing time at third base in September to evaluate his performance.
Guerrero Jr. has been outstanding in the latter half of the season. As of today’s MLB games, the All-Star slugger has posted a .342/.398/.673 line with a 1.071 OPS from June 1 to August 24. Despite Toronto’s struggles with a 34-38 record during that period, Guerrero Jr. has demonstrated his value to the team.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s contract details show a $19.9 million salary for 2024, with arbitration eligibility in 2025. Regarding MLB trade rumors about a potential offseason deal, it seems unlikely. Guerrero Jr. has already shown interest in a contract extension with the Blue Jays, who are keen on retaining him long-term. Therefore, he is not expected to be available for trade this offseason.
