Former Georgia linebacker Troy Bowles has committed to Michigan, as confirmed by multiple sources on Saturday. The son of Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles, he chose the Wolverines over Florida State and Oklahoma State, becoming another notable addition to Michigan’s transfer class.
Standing 6 feet tall and weighing 220 pounds, Bowles brings a strong football background to Ann Arbor. A former four-star recruit from Jesuit High School in Tampa, he first caught the eye of Michigan linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary during Jean-Mary’s time at Tennessee. Though Bowles saw limited action at Georgia, where he played behind C.J. Allen and Raylen Wilson, he arrives at Michigan with three years of eligibility remaining.
Rated as a three-star transfer (86) by 247Sports, Bowles joins a linebacker unit expected to return top tackler Ernest Hausmann and Jaishawn Barham, although Barham is anticipated to shift to edge rusher. Bowles’ commitment marks Michigan’s sixth transfer portal addition since the window opened on December 9.
With players having until December 28 to enter the portal—extended by five days for College Football Playoff participants—Michigan continues to strengthen its roster following their championship campaign. Bowles is a strategic addition for a team aiming to maintain its competitive edge.
This move reflects Michigan’s proactive approach to the transfer portal, as the coaching staff remains focused on pursuing additional talent. While Bowles’ opportunities at Georgia were limited, his high school accolades and family football legacy suggest he has significant potential to contribute to the Wolverines’ defense.
