The Oregon Ducks secured the No. 1 overall seed in the College Football Playoff on Sunday after finishing an undefeated season with a victory over Penn State in the Big Ten Championship on Saturday. This achievement grants Oregon a first-round bye in the CFP, where they will face the winner of Tennessee vs. Ohio State.
However, the same day the playoff bracket was announced, the Ducks saw a player enter the transfer portal. Freshman linebacker Jaxson Jones, who appeared in just one snap this season against Maryland, entered the portal, according to Hayes Fawcett of On3.
Jones, a former three-star recruit from Yuma Catholic High School in Yuma, Arizona, initially committed to Washington in 2022 but decommitted in January 2023 before choosing Oregon a week later. He had a wide range of offers from schools like Arizona State, Notre Dame, USC, Michigan, Utah, and Oregon State. His father, Daniel, was a wide receiver at Utah, making Jones’ next destination particularly intriguing. He is the second Oregon player to transfer recently, following offensive tackle Jac’Qawn McRoy.
