The Michigan Wolverines secured a narrow victory in Columbus, Ohio, last Saturday, marking their biggest win of the season. Despite the success, starting quarterback Davis Warren managed just 62 passing yards, highlighting struggles in the team’s passing game. These issues prompted the dismissal of offensive coordinator Kirk Campbell and set off a series of offseason changes, including the recruitment of Bryce Underwood, the nation’s top quarterback prospect from Belleville, Michigan. Early Monday morning, one of Campbellās young quarterbacks revealed a major decision about his future.
“I have cherished my time at the University of Michigan,” wrote Jayden Denegal on his X page. “Being part of one of the most iconic football programs has been an incredible opportunity. While I remain a proud Wolverine at heart, I have decided to enter the transfer portal.” Denegal attributed his decision to limited playing time. In 2023, he completed four of five passes for 80 yards and a touchdown and was compared to Steelers legend Ben Roethlisberger during the offseason. However, he did not throw a single pass in 2024.
“I have two years of eligibility remaining and am eager to showcase my skills on the field on Saturdays,” he added. “I am deeply grateful to my coaches and professors who have supported me throughout my time here. To Coach Jim Harbaugh, thank you for allowing me to contribute to Team #144 and experience the excellence of winning a National Championship. I love Michigan. I love the Wolverines. Go Blue!”
Denegal, a native of Apple Valley, California, concluded his statement by expressing gratitude for his time with the Wolverines.
