The No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs are set to face the No. 2 Texas Longhorns in the SEC Championship Game on Saturday in Atlanta, with both the league title and College Football Playoff stakes on the line. Georgia’s second-year starting quarterback, Carson Beck, will lead the team against star QB Quinn Ewers and the Longhorns. Beck has thrown for nearly 3,500 yards this season, tallying 28 touchdowns and 12 interceptions heading into the showdown. Ahead of the game, ESPN’s Holly Rowe shared Beck’s personal motivation during a lively atmosphere in Atlanta.
“For Georgia, this game feels like home,” Rowe said. “Beck mentioned that he vividly remembers his first loss as a starter in last year’s SEC title game. He told me he can’t forget walking off this field and looking at the scoreboard. ‘I never want to feel that again,’ he said.”
In last year’s 27-24 loss to Jalen Milroe and the Alabama Crimson Tide, Beck threw for 243 yards but did not record a touchdown or interception. He’ll likely need to elevate his performance to outpace Ewers and coach Steve Sarkisian’s explosive Texas offense, which reached the College Football Playoff last year before falling to national runner-up Washington.
“This is Beck’s fourth appearance in the SEC Championship Game,” Rowe added. “He told me, ‘I have no quit in me.’”
