SHOCKING NEWS: Alabama Wide Receiver’s Father Shock Fans By Revealing He Forced Son’s Exit from Alabama

The father of former Alabama wide receiver Javon Baker recently acknowledged that his own arrogance led him to encourage his son to leave the Crimson Tide.

Jerald Baker spoke with Derrick Tatum of Elite Talent Football on the Raw Talent Sports YouTube channel, where he opened up about Javon’s time at Alabama. Javon, a highly touted wide receiver recruit in the 2020 class, transferred to UCF after two years and was selected by the New England Patriots in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Jerald admitted that Javon didn’t want to leave Alabama, explaining, “Javon never wanted to leave Alabama. I made that decision because I was so arrogant, thinking, ‘How dare they not play my son?’ especially in the game against the University of Georgia. Because of that arrogance, I ended up clashing with Coach Saban.”

Baker continued by explaining the source of his “arrogance.”

“I was arrogant,” he admitted. “What led me to that mindset was when Javon was at Alabama. I started buying into all the hype, listening to the Alabama radio shows, podcasts, and all the chatter about the next big wide receiver to come out of Alabama.”

It seems that Baker has learned from this experience and now wants to share his insights with other parents of top college football recruits.
