Alabama football will be without one of its top defenders this Saturday against Mercer, as redshirt senior edge rusher Que Robinson is officially sidelined for the rest of the season following an injury sustained in Alabama’s win over LSU.
“He’s an exceptional person in every sense. It’s tough to see a guy who invests so much in the team go through this,” a coach remarked. “Que isn’t just a force on the field; he’s there before practice, mentoring and helping his teammates. He truly cares about the team and this program—he’s given so much to this place.”
To cover Robinson’s absence, redshirt freshmen Qua Russaw and Yhonzae Pierre are expected to take on larger roles. Defensive coordinator Kane Wommack expressed confidence in them on Monday.
“These young guys are embracing the challenge with a ‘next man up’ attitude,” Wommack said. “The season’s defining moments come when players need to step up, and that will ultimately shape our success down the stretch.”
Jihaad Campbell, an inside linebacker, may also see more time at the edge, where he’s been increasingly deployed to rush the passer. Wommack shared that Campbell’s versatility could be an asset in various matchups.
“He’s a game-changer wherever he plays, so we want to put him in favorable one-on-one situations,” Wommack said. “Schematically, we can show him as a defensive end or drop him into coverage. He’s valuable for his pass rush ability, and that’s what makes him such a complete player.”
Alabama will host Mercer at Bryant-Denny Stadium at 1 p.m. CT Saturday, with the game streaming on SEC Network+. Alabama will also be without depth player Keanu Koht, who is suspended.
