It appears likely that Nate Davis has played his last game as a Chicago Bear. Davis, who’s in the second year of a three-year contract, was surprisingly inactive against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London, suggesting he may no longer be in the team’s offensive line rotation.
Recent reports indicate that the Bears are exploring trade options for Davis before the NFL trade deadline, which is approaching quickly. Kevin Fishbain from The Athletic noted that while Davis’s 2024 base salary is guaranteed, the Bears may be open to absorbing part of his remaining pay if it means getting a draft pick in return. At this stage, a sixth-round pick could be sufficient to finalize a deal, though a conditional seventh-rounder might be more realistic.
Fishbain didn’t dismiss the possibility that the Bears might ultimately release Davis. If they intend to trade him, having him active for Sunday’s game against the Washington Commanders would be essential, as other teams might simply wait for the Bears to waive him instead.
Davis’s time in Chicago seems limited, with his departure appearing inevitable in the coming weeks. For now, Matt Pryor is likely to take over at right guard, with Ryan Bates possibly entering the rotation once he’s healthy.
