BREAKING NEWS: Packers GM reveals extra step made before signing Brandon McManus

It’s been a good start for the Green Bay Packers so far in 2024.  So far, they’re 4-2 and in the thick of the NFC North race after six games. In this week’s contest, Green Bay will try to move to 5-2 by welcoming the 5-1 Texans to Lambeau Field.

A speedster was already added to Green Bay’s offense prior to the matchup.  Now could Green Bay be looking to add a leader on defense?

In Week 6, the Green Bay Packers dominated the Arizona Cardinals, boosting their season record to 4-2. Second-year quarterback Jordan Love is in top form, throwing four touchdown passes in consecutive games, and the team received encouraging injury news regarding its receivers. Overall, things were looking promising for the Packers, except for one area: their kicking game has struggled throughout the season.

On Wednesday, the Packers officially made a roster change by releasing rookie kicker Brayden Narveson and signing veteran Brandon McManus. The 12-year kicker had previously agreed to a one-year deal with the Washington Commanders during the preseason but was let go due to resurfaced sexual assault allegations from his time with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst emphasized the team’s thorough vetting process before signing McManus. He stated that they relied on the league’s investigation while also conducting their own inquiry into the allegations, as reported by ESPN’s Rob Demovsky. Gutekunst wanted to hear McManus’s side of the story directly.

“We had a really good conversation with Brandon. Once the league cleared things up and he moved past some issues, our discussions picked up again. We made sure to do our due diligence. We feel confident about it and are excited to have him on board,” Gutekunst said, adding, “He’s a very experienced kicker.”
