The hits keep on coming for the Cincinnati Bengals. Hits meaning players lost for the season due to injury issues.
Following the loss of starting cornerback Dax Hill for the entire 2024 NFL season due to a torn ACL, the Bengals announced that offensive lineman Jaxson Kirkland would also be out for the year after suffering a torn biceps during Cincinnati’s 41-38 defeat to the Baltimore Ravens in Week 5. Kirkland, who joined the team as an undrafted free agent in 2023, had played in the last two games.
In response to these injuries, the Bengals signed offensive lineman Andrew Stueber.
To recap, the Bengals lost two players for the season in the game against the Ravens. They were already missing offensive tackle Trent Brown, who is out due to a torn patellar tendon, and defensive end Cam Sample, who suffered an Achilles injury in August before the season began.
These are just the players sidelined for the entire season. There have been numerous other injuries that have caused players to miss games, and it’s only Week 5. While injuries are part of the game and not an excuse for Cincinnati’s disappointing 1-4 start, the team has certainly been hit hard this season.
However, that’s why NFL rosters consist of 53 players. The Bengals will need their depth to step up if they hope to recover from this rough start. Historically, few teams have made the playoffs after starting 1-4, but it’s not impossible, so the Bengals still hold a glimmer of hope—albeit a slim one.
