The Boston Red Sox must focus on acquiring several quality pitchers this offseason.
Both the team’s rotation and bullpen need significant strengthening. One potential addition is Shane Bieber, a former Cy Young winner from the Cleveland Guardians.
At 29 years old, Bieber has recently been linked to Boston, and chief baseball officer Craig Breslow should definitely keep the Red Sox in the running for him this offseason. Although Bieber is recovering from Tommy John surgery, he is expected to fully recover by 2025. The Red Sox could consider signing him to a two-year contract, positioning him to be healthy for their next two playoff campaigns.
Tim Crowley from NESN recently stated that Boston could be an ideal destination for Bieber. He noted, “Shane Bieber has a Cy Young award on his resume after a standout run with the Cleveland Guardians. Injuries have hindered him in recent years, so this could mirror the Giolito signing, relying on Andrew Bailey and the team to help restore a top starter to form.”
Just four years removed from winning the American League Cy Young, Bieber still has many productive seasons ahead of him.
The Red Sox should be among the first to pursue his services once Cleveland’s season concludes.
