As one of the WNBA’s most popular players, Chicago Sky star Angel Reese naturally attracts her share of critics. It’s a common aspect of fame. Although no one, not even Reese herself, can completely escape the daily onslaught of negativity, the 22-year-old has found a way to turn it to her advantage. The former LSU standout has learned to monetize the hate directed at her. On Wednesday, she took to Instagram to subtly respond to her detractors, captioning her post, “you know hating pays too ??!” from her hometown of Randallstown, Maryland.

While Reese took an indirect approach with her jab here, it would probably be safe to say that this is a veiled shot aimed at her naysayers. At this point, Reese has become one of the most sought-after players in the league. Reebok, Amazon, Airbnb and Beats by Dre are just some of her biggest-name endorsement deals. Just recently, she also signed a sponsorship agreement with world-renowned candy brand Reese’s.
Additionally, Reese hosts her own podcast titled “Unapologetically Angel,” part of NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal’s “The Big Podcast” network. She acknowledges that her success is largely due to her fans, but she also credits her critics for playing a role in her rise. After all, as the saying goes, there’s no such thing as bad publicity—especially when it helps pay the bills.
